Clare County Council has refused 39 applicants in the first three months of this year because of its settlement location policy, a meeting of the council was told last night.

The policy includes the contentious provision of generally prohibiting non-locals from building in certain parts of the county.

Responding to the report, Councillor P.J. Kelly said he feared the council would face legal action from people who had been refused planning permission.
