Manila - The Philippines presidency of Mrs Gloria Arroyo was legitimate and her deposed predecessor, Mr Joseph Estrada, could not invoke immunity if the government brought corruption charges against him, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday.

The verdict opened the possibility of Mr Estrada's arrest should corruption investigators pursue plans to indict the former president.
