When Number 3 Pleasants Street was purchased by its current owners in 2004 the house was in a state of disrepair. The owners, who are both engineers, extended and completely refurbished the house and it now extends to 172sq m (1,850sq ft).
The original fireplaces were sent off to Irish Chimney Pieces on Francis Street for restoration, where it was discovered that the hand-painted tiles dating from 1838 were preserved under a century of paint.

Upstairs, there are two of the three bedrooms, with the master being en suite. As the extension to the rear would have interfered with the light in the master bedroom, the owners installed a Velux window. They then covered this with a skylight encased in stained glass by Alan Tomlin to echo the colours in the newly discovered hand-painted tiles.
This is also mirrored in a new stained glass fanlight over the modern glass and steel staircase. The house has two reception rooms, one upstairs facing onto the street and the second downstairs, used as a library/living area. The original staircase was reconfigured to allow the installation of a family bathroom where the children of the house have learned to swim in the giant bespoke bath which will happily take four.
Light and stylish
The Hettich kitchen sits adjacent to a light-filled dining area and is streamlined, with all the appliances tucked away behind high-gloss cabinets. Bronze- hued granite countertops were chosen to echo the colours in the exposed Dublin brick walls which line the dining area and lead to a triple glass sliding door which opens onto a small decked garden.
The owners of number three having completed a superb refurbishment are in search of a new project and have placed their home on the market through Sherry FitzGerald with an asking price of €925,000.
Number 2 sold for €705,000 in June of this year, but the house had a third less space than Number 3.
