My favourite whites included the bargain basement Hungarian Lebegés Grüner Veltliner 2016 (€6.99) with its plump melon fruits, or the real star, the South African Painted Dog Chenin Blanc Viognier (€9.99), full of rounded textured juicy melons and pears.
My star of the red wines was The Restless Wine Merchant Wrattonbully Shiraz 2016 (€10.99), full-bodied and concentrated with lovely dark fruits and a touch of elegance too.
If you plan on barbequing red meats, head straight for the ripe sweet powerful El Casetero Garnacha 2014 (€9.99, Spain) or the equally warm rounded Valle Hermoso Cabernet Franc Gran Reserva (€9.99, Chile).
