Shookrah bring easy listening R&B to the Picnic table

Though best fitted to a soulful Sunday or basement jazz club, Shookrah's odd night placement doesn't concern the Cork sextet themselves. Bringing a touch of slinky R&B to the fest, there's even loose choreography between frontladies Senita and Imelda as they harmonise over the off-beat drums and a plucked bass (though we're still trying to figure out if the David Brent moves were intentional).

Not all their songs are crafted to show off their cohesiveness, but when they do, they shine. Woman is an example – it offers a welcome shift in energy and the vocals are like silk.

In a festival set, when acts are fighting to be more than background music, they could do with a few more of those to go next level.

For now, they’re an entertaining bunch with the performance and talent to hold our interest. Even on a Friday night.
