Bicep fails to show true EP muscle

Enter the erie tones, smoke and lasers

Bicep

Electric Tent, Friday

**

Belfast duo Bicep turn the Electric Tent into a celestial pod, blasting the arena into the outer cosmos with their skittering electronics and echoing vocal chants that sound like they are bouncing off the metallic walls in a galaxy hella far away.

Punctuating the eerie tones are plenty of smoke and lasers as our faceless, silluette hosts – perched in front of turntables – bump their repertoire, drawing from a self-titled debut album that’s freshly released.

The spiritual vocals on Rain are a highlight, as is Spring, with it's 16-bit videogame squiggles. There's a few whoops from the crowd when the bass presses down; others shuffle break back and forth, eyes fixed to the floor, taking in the thunderous, harmonious techno-influenced songs.

As a live set, though, it’s professional and competent but no more than that.
