Gardaí appeal for witnesses to fatal collision in Co Louth

A man his 80s has died from injuries he received in a road traffic collision on the N1 in Co Louth on St Stephen’s Day.

Gardaí are appealing to the public for information following the two vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at Plaster, near Dundalk, at approximately 6.40pm on December 26th.

The driver of one of the vehicles died from his injuries on Monday afternoon.

A man in his 60s and a male child received treatment at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda following the collision. Gardaí said their injuries were not life-threatening.

The fatality brings to 179 the number of people killed in various road crashes so far this year. This compares to to 184 for the entirety of 2023, based on data from the Road Safety Authority.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision has been asked to come forward.

Gardaí appealed for any road users with camera footage, including dashcam, who were travelling on the N1 on the December 26th between 6.15pm and 6.45pm, to make this footage available.
