DAA plans €10m upgrade for Terminal 1 at Dublin airport

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has confirmed plans to spend €10 million on upgrading the arrivals hall in Terminal 1.

Details of the investment were first revealed in The Irish Times in December.

DAA said the renovations will include new flooring, a replacement ceiling, the removal of desks currently situated in some window areas to allow natural light in, and a new look to the terminal's facade.

Once completed, all restaurants in the terminal will be located in one area, as will all information services.

More than 400 million passengers have passed through the terminal since it first opened 44 years ago. DAA managing director Vincent Harrison said passengers will see a very different terminal once the upgrade is finished.

“We are upgrading Terminal 1 on a phased basis and we have already enhanced the departures floor. We are now turning our attention to the Arrivals Hall. Our goal is to greatly improve the overall look and feel for our customers,” he said.

“The arrivals hall is synonymous with happy and emotional scenes at Dublin airport. We are confident that, when completed, the renovations will significantly enhance the ambience in that area,” Mr Harrison added.

More than 5.5 million passengers travelled through the in the first three months of this year, up 17 per cent increase on the same period in 2015. Passenger growth is set to continue with 13 new routes and services due to start in the coming months.
