Web Log: Gmail’s Inbox Answers Email for You

Software often suggested ‘I love you’ as a possible response to workplace emails

When researchers at Google first began testing out a new feature for Inbox called Smart Reply, it got a little awkward. The well-meaning software often suggested "I love you" as a possible response to workplace emails. But we have been assured that "thanks to Googler feedback, Smart Reply is now SFW [safe for work]".

This feature should be available as an update to the Inbox app by the end of the week. It will offer three possible quick responses to incoming emails, depending on the context. For example, if your boss is asking for a file, you can choose from replies like “I’m sending them now” or “I’m on it”. Does this mean it will be possible to get through hangover Fridays just by tapping on responses that some clever software composed for me?
