Considering life without Apple, a new security app for your smartphone and the Great British Bake Off

Life Without Apple
Designer at Twitter and start-up founder Paul Stamatiou has written a blog post that may sway iPhone users with a straying eye.

It started out as a week-long fling with a Nexus 4 and he has never looked back. In summation everything that Apple does, Google does better. The only thing he misses is iMessage. He doesn't even use iTunes anymore.

What swayed him to begin with? The Nexus 4's superior looks . . . but it's not just a pretty face it seems.

Smile, You're on Camera!

"Want a picture of the person trying to unlock your phone emailed to you," asks Stamatiou. Of course you do!

Lookout’s combined antivirus and security app for Android has a “find my phone” feature that locates and sounds an alarm. The genius bit is that when someone incorrectly enters the passcode tree times a picture is taken and sent to your email address.

It also offers always-on protection from viruses, malware, adware and spyware.

How to Bin Friends and Agitate People on Facebook

Image uploading and sharing is the most used feature on Facebook, with more than 300 million photos uploaded on a daily basis. Birmingham Business School carried out a small study looking at the effects of the frequency of photo-sharing on support and intimacy of friends within a Facebook user's network.

The results are interesting. We like when friends share more photos of us but we’re put off when it’s increasingly photos of themselves (selfies). Couples like when their partner shares more pics of events but not so much of their friends.

Great British Bake Off Is On
Don't lie, I know you're all as obsessed with the highs and lows of this addictive baking programme as I am. Who doesn't fear the soggy bottom or hope against hope that Mary won't notice the dip in your Devil's Food Cake?

Series four is soon upon us (August 20th) and the GBBO has just added some juicy details of forthcoming contestants on the official Facebook page. Read the profiles and make harsh snap judgments!
I give "freestyler" and "Breakfast Pie" three weeks tops.
