Review: Surface Pro 3 docking station

We check out the latest from Microsoft, which offers lots of functions

The idea that a tablet could replace your laptop is a seductive one. And it's one Microsoft has been trying to convince people of since it announced the Surface Pro in 2012. But there's always one issue: connections. The more mobile you go, the more you sacrifice. That includes ports, which can be crucial when you are office-based.

This docking station solves many of these issues. Not only will it charge your device while it’s docked, but it will give you three USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an ethernet port, a mini display port and a 3.55mm audio connection. It will also leave your Surface Pro 3’s mini display and USB 3.0 port open so you can use those too. That means you can connect to keyboards, printers and your office’s wired network. The price is a bit steep, given the initial cost of the Pro 3, but it’s worth it to get the extra functions. microsoft.com
