Neuroon Open is the sleeping mask of the future. This Kickstarter project is an open-source sleep-tracking device designed to be worn like a mask except one that has built-in EEG (electroencephalogram) sensors that monitor electrical signals in your brain as a way of determining the quality and phases of your sleep. It also has sensors for temperature, oxygen saturation, heart rate and movement.
Neuroon Open works with other IoT devices: it communicates with Nest to bring the temperature down as you fall asleep while turning on your bedside light as it senses you awaking in the night for a trip to the bathroom.
Meditation programmes
It also has audio-guided meditation programmes that tailor to your mood depending upon your pulse and oxygen levels.
The most intriguing element of Neuroon, however, is a programme for lucid dreaming, which is described as “a metacognitive state within a dream, which may enable the dreamer to know that they are dreaming or even give them full intellectual ability and volitional control over the dream”, although it doesn’t specify why this is a useful or desirable state.
