THE Minister for Finance, Mr Quinn, should commission a study on the implications of Economic and Monetary Union for the border regions, according to the Fianna Fail chief whip, Mr Dermot Ahern. The latest ESRI report completely ignores the impact on the region, even though it is likely to be the area most in danger if Ireland goes into EMU and Britain does not, he said in a statement. The lack of a regional dimension was a great weakness of the ESRI report, he said.
