Shelbourne’s four in a row cup dream

They may be wearing different colours but Shelbourne will be aiming to make it a four-in-a-row of FAI Women's Cups when they face league champions Wexford Youths in Sunday's final at the Aviva Stadium (12.20pm).

Shortly after Raheny United beat Peamount United in last year’s decider, their amalgamation with the thriving underage set-up of nearby Shelbourne was finalised to create what is considered the strongest women’s club in Ireland.

Wexford have been making some steady progress themselves and a first Cup triumph would crown a stellar year which has already taken in a national league title and Uefa Champions League participation.

Although the most recent duels have gone the way of Wexford, their manager rates Shelbourne as favourites. "Most of their team have the experience of winning the Cup final at the venue before," said Willie Doyle. "There is a psychological aspect to it."
