Newcastle midfielder Charles N'Zogbia will undergo tests today to assess the full extent of his knee injury.
The 20-year-old Frenchman was stretchered off just before half-time during last night's 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, and manager Glenn Roeder later revealed fears that he had damaged his medial ligament.
N'Zogbia returned to Tyneside with the rest of the squad last night and was expected at the training ground to give the club's medics a chance to examine the injury.
The left-sided player could be missing for several weeks and with the holiday programme fast approaching Roeder would then have 14 players out injured.
Roeder hopes to have Kieron Dyer and Scott Parker back from thigh and back problems respectively for Saturday's hugely important Premiership clash with Watford at St James' Park. Emre too could return sooner rather than later from an ankle injury.
But with full-back Celestine Babayaro facing a one-match ban after reaching five bookings for the season at Stamford Bridge, the January transfer window cannot come soon enough for the Magpies.
