Cork City 0 Shelbourne 0:THERE WAS to be no late goal on for Cork City against Shelbourne as they played out their first scoreless draw of the campaign on a frustrating night at Turner's Cross.
After denying the Reds a First Division title with a 94th-minute goal in the last minute of last season and earning three points when the teams met in Tolka Park earlier this year thanks to an 83rd-minute strike from Vinny Sullivan, Cork had started to create a bit of a pattern against one of their closest rivals. But in a game that they dominated for long spells, the home team wasted a series of fantastic opportunities and ended up finishing with 10 men following the 84th-minute sending off of Keigan Parker for a challenge on Brian Shortall.
Ian Turner missed the two best chances of the opening half, after fine through balls from Daryl Horgan and Davin O’Neill respectively, while they were both wasteful themselves in the opening half. Shels were dangerous throughout on the counter-attack, Stephen Hurley and Shortall coming closest for them, but in the end they will have been happier with the point as they maintained their place in the top half of the table.
