Manchester United are determined to end their Hillsborough hoodoo tonight and stretch their lead in the Premiership to three points.

United have not won at Hillsborough since October 1993, while they have lost their last two visits despite Wednesday's almost constant battle to avoid the drop.

Victory would take United three points clear of Leeds at the top of the table and Alex Ferguson is in no mood to squander their last game in hand over David O'Leary's side.

"I've no idea what it is about playing at Sheffield Wednesday," confessed the United boss. "I've only had three victories there in 13 years and it is a bit of a bogey ground for us."

West Ham target Teddy Sheringham could make way for Andy Cole up front, while Paul Scholes is set to start his first game for United since the St Stephen's Day win over Bradford.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Wilson yesterday said his Manager of the Month award was "hollow" while even chairman Dave Richards was surprised at the honour.

Wilson is without both Alan Quinn and Danny Sonner through suspension, so Petter Rudi should make his first start for two months after recovering from an Achilles injury.

Leicester manager Martin O'Neill is optimistic his big guns will be back for the League Cup semi-final second leg clash with Aston Villa that will make or break his side's season.

City's Muzzy Izzet, Neil Lennon and Steve Guppy should all play at least some part after recent injury problems in the second leg at Filbert Street.

And O'Neill is keeping his fingers crossed that joint-leading scorer Tony Cottee will also be fit enough to return after an eye infection.

Paul Merson will need medical clearance to play for Villa.

Merson had six stitches following a clash of heads with Leeds defender Michael Duberry in Villa's 3-2 FA Cup win over Leeds United on Sunday which left him with concussion and he has spent the last 48 hours resting.

Villa may play rookie striker Richard Walker up front in place of the cup-tied Benito Carbone and midfielder Ian Taylor is still struggling to overcome the ankle injury.
