11.00: Golf
Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow saw their Olympic medal hopes ended on Friday as they shot rounds of 74 and 71 respectively to slip out of contention in Rio. Thursday's impressive showing had given hope Maguire in particular could mount a challenge for the podium, but she struggled on a windy day where scoring was difficult. Maguire now sits at level par for the tournament, with Meadow a stroke further back.
15:00: Women’s triathalon
Aileen Reid is participating in her second Olympics, and she will be looking for an improvement on what turned out to be a sobering Games four years ago. The 34-year-old Derry native crashed at the start of the cycling leg of the competition in London, and that set back meant she finished in 43rd place overall. She had six top ten finishes last year en route to Olympic qualification, and this indicates she can be quietly confident about her hopes in Brazil.
16:00: Modern pentathlon
Arthur Lanigan-O'Keefe lies in 25th position out of the 35-strong field after the opening round of the modern pentathlon. He scored 196 in the marathon opening fencing round - way off the leader, Russia's Alexander Lesun, who set a new Olympic record with 268. Saturday's competition starts with a 200m freestyle swim at 4.00pm, and Lanigan-O'Keefe is in the fourth of six heats. This is followed by a bonus fencing round, showjumping and a combination of a 3km run and 10m pistol shooting.
