Michael Conlan was named the RTÉ Sports Person of the year on Saturday night.

The honour crowns a remarkable year for Conlan, who became Ireland’s first male amateur boxing world title holder in October. Conlan took gold at the World Championships in Qatar with victory over Uzbek fighter Murodjon Akhmadaliev.

The 24-year-old added the bantamweight world title to his 2012 Olympics bronze, and golds in the Commonwealth Games (2014) and European Championships (2015).
