David Harte again nominated for World Goalkeeper of the Year

Irish men's hockey goalkeeper David Harte has again been nominated for International Hockey Federation World Goalkeeper of the Year.

Unprecedented for an Irish player Harte has won the top world for the last two years in a row, cementing his place as the sport’s top goalkeeper.

The former Bandon Grammar pupil will compete in the hugely competitive category against Quico Cortes of Spain, George Pinner of Great Britain, current European silver medallist with Belgium Vincent Vanasch, and Olympic gold medallist Juan Vivaldi from Argentina.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be nominated. This is the third year in a row for me and each year the feeling just increases, knowing what a prestigious award it is,” said Harte.

“It’s been a great year, qualifying for the World Cup with Ireland and being named GK of the tournament at World League 2. It would mean everything to win, I dedicate my life towards goalkeeping and hockey, and it’s something I love to do”.

Harte is the only Irish players to be nominated in any of the five categories, although Irish coach Craig Fulton, was a previous winner of the World Coach of the Year award.

Voting has now opened for this year's awards with voting taking place online.
