FERGAL LOGAN returned to the Tyrone side yesterday, scored a goal, set up another, and then revealed he was on the verge of quitting after Tyrone's All-Ireland semi-final defeat by Meath.

"I had a fairly sobering experience in Croke Park this summer, and I was very close to calling it a day. But I decided to give it one last tilt," Logan said after Donegal had fought back for their second successive draw at Omagh.

Half-back Damian Diver hit a spectacular last-minute equalising point to earn a draw for Donegal in a highly-entertaining game.

The first half really came to life in the final five minutes. First, Donegal goalkeeper Gary Walsh pulled off a wonderful save from a Ciaran McBride `screamer', then there were two goals in a minute.

Tyrone's converted defender, Sean McLaughlin fisted to the net from Fergal Logan's far post knock down. And the celebrations had barely subsided when debutant full-forward, Brian McLaughlin, smashed in a great shot at the other end.

Donegal led by 1-3 to 1-2 at the interval, but Tyrone took the lead for the first time eight minutes into the second half. Walsh needlessly came off his goal-line to field a McBride lob, but fumbled the ball. It fell to the in-rushing midfielder Logan and he had the easiest of tasks in kicking into an empty net.

Another goalkeeping mistake, this time by Tyrone's newcomer, Plunkett McCallan, allowed Donegal's Tony Boyle in for their second goal. McCallan dropped what looked like a safely-collected ball, then fouled Brian Roper, but referee Adrian Walsh played a sensible advantage, and Boyle gathered to drive to the net after 19 minutes to give his side a one-point lead.

But Tyrone swept play to the other end and were soon back in front, with Ronan McGarrity and Eoin Gormley hitting the target. But Diver's spectacular late effort tied it up.
