Joe Kinnear has revealed he is on the brink of agreeing to take over as Sheffield Wednesday's new manager. The 53-year-old former Wimbledon boss, who will give Wednesday an answer today, was quoted on the club's official website: "I am delighted and excited to be so close to returning to football at such a big club with what I see as enormous potential.
"There are still things to discuss with Wednesday in terms of the club's future and I have to consider the implications for my family too.
"There have been some tempting approaches since I left Wimbledon, but Wednesday represents a special challenge."
Wednesday chairman Howard Culley had admitted the club were targeting "one individual" to replace caretaker-boss Peter Shreeves.
Culley was not prepared to reveal if Kinnear was the favourite, but did say: "We still have a number of candidates to consider, but we are now focusing on one individual."
"We are not there. Until a deal is done we are not going to make any announcement," Culley told the Sheffield Star.
