MOTORSPORT: Irish drivers Austin McHale and Adam Carroll are in contention to win British motor sport championships this weekend, and in the Far East John O'Hara is in line to win the Asian Formula Three Championship.
Meanwhile, the battle for the Pirelli Tarmac Rally Championship will be fought between Derek McGarrity and Eugene Donnelly in the Cork 20 Rally. There is a three-way contest for the Pirelli British Rally Championship between David Higgins on 89 points, Austin McHale on 88 and Matthew Wilson on 87. The Yorkshire-based Trackrod Rally will be run from tomorrow until Sunday morning, covering 110 miles of off-road stages.
Unfortunately for McHale there is a clash between the final rounds of the British and Irish championships.
McGarrity and Donnelly are joint leaders of the Irish series, on 75 points each, with McHale third on 68 points.
Three-times Cork winner McHale has opted for the British event. With 50 per cent bonus points on offer it is down to a straight battle between reigning tarmac champion McGarrity and Donnelly.
Eamonn Boland is the number one seed for the Cork 20, followed on the road by Donnelly, McGarrity, Donie O'Sullivan, Tim McNulty, Liam McCarthy, Maurice Gass, Denis Cronin, Ollie O'Donovan and Tony Davies.
