Now this column has heard of prevailing against the odds, but the Clonmel Ladies rugby XV can lay claim to being right up there with the best. They managed a stunning triumph recently in the most unlikely circumstances.

Clonmel travelled to Waterpark to fulfil a league fixture despite the fact that they could only manage to field nine fit players, the club having been decimated by injuries. To their credit, Clonmel took the field with nine against 15 Waterpark players. And the final score? 38-0 . . . to CLONMEL . It does beg the question about Waterpark's state of mind.

But one thing is sure, they rear them tough in Clonmel.
