Hannah O’Sullivan named in young USA team for Curtis Cup

US Amateur champion part of talented selection for matches at Dún Laoghaire GC

US Amateur champion Hannah O'Sullivan has been named in a very young America team for June's Curtis Cup match against Britain and Ireland at Dún Laoghaire Golf Club.

O'Sullivan, whose paternal grandparents hailed from Limerick and Tipperary, is the number two ranked amateur in the world behind Ireland's Leona Maguire. She finished tied for 53rd spot at the 2015 Women's US Open and also qualified for the professional event in 2012 at the age of 14.

O’Sullivan, who is from Arizona, is joined on the USA team by fellow 17-year-old Sierra Brooks, whom she beat to claim last year’s US Amateur title.

In total there are five 17-year-olds, two 19-year-olds and a 21-year-old in the eight-strong team. All eight are among the top 30 in the world rankings, four in the top 10.

The match takes place at Dún Laoghaire Golf Club in Enniskerry from June 10th to 12th.

Robin Burke, the 1997 US Women's Amateur runner-up and a member of the victorious 1998 USA Curtis Cup team, will serve as captain.

“It’s exciting to have the team announced,” said Burke. “I’m looking forward to bringing the players together for practice and creating positive energy for the match in June. This is a remarkable group of players – all very talented, all proud to represent the United States. I’m not sure Ireland is ready for us, but we will be ready for Ireland!”
