FORMER DUNDALK manager Jim Gannon looked to be on course last night to move from Stockport County to Brighton after describing his position at Edgeley Park as “untenable” in the wake of drawn-out contract negotiations. Gannon guided County, for whom he made more than 400 appearances during his playing days, to promotion from League Two last season. The club sit just two places and two points off the League One play-off places. Brighton, on the other hand, are battling against relegation in the same division.

The 40-year-old has grown frustrated over his position and what he perceives to be a lack of support from his club, however, and having been given permission to talk to Brighton he made it clear he would be happy to hear what they have to offer.

Republic of Ireland under-21 player JJ O’Toole, meanwhile, has moved from Watford to Sheffield United on loan until the end of the current season.

The 20-year-old midfielder had an impressive goalscoring record with eight from 28 appearances this season but he had drifted out of contention for a place in the first team since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers and had not started a game since December.
