Cork 3-22 LIT 0-7

Substitute Micheál Ó Laoire became the first Cork player to be shown a black card in yesterday's one-sided McGrath Cup quarter-final in windswept Mallow.

The midfielder was dispatched two minutes from the end of regulation time and Ó Laoire was soon followed by Limerick IT defender Con Prendeville, who conceded a penalty, which John Hayes converted to end the scoring.

Cork played with the howling wind from the start and at half-time they led 1-15 to 0-0. Andrew O’Sullivan bagged the goal after 13 minutes, following Prendeville’s goal-line clearance from a Donncha O’Connor effort.

Six attackers
The experienced Aidan Walsh and Fintan Goold dominated midfield and the Cork attack did as they pleased with O'Connor, Daniel Goulding, Hayes and Mark Sugrue all finding the target before Colm O'Driscoll's 30th minute point ensured all six attackers found the range.

The visitors had only one chance in the half, but Sean Hayes was denied by a fine save from newcomer Ryan Price just before the interval.

The students kicked four consecutive points in as many minutes on the resumption, but late goals from substitute Kevin Crowley and Hayes rounded off Brian Cuthbert's winning start as Cork boss.
