And here’s Seán Moran’s report from Limerick’s win against Cork:
The much-touted championship rematch between Cork and Limerick ended up as the dampest of squibs. This may have been a disappointment to the neutral and, rather more than that to Pat Ryan and his Cork team, but it ended as a powerful restatement of Limerick’s credentials after their five-in-a-row came to nothing last year.
It could be argued the contest lacked consequence, as Cork are still the most likely opponents for Limerick in the Munster final but no team tumbles to this type of a beating without scars. And it was definitely consequential for All-Ireland champions Clare, who are now out of the championship a week before they play Limerick.

At Nowlan Park, Kilkenny booked their spot in the Leinster SHC final with a win over Dublin.
Niall Ó Ceallacháin’s men put it up to their hosts in the second half, but their fightback was brought to an abrupt end when Billy Ryan found the net late on to earn Kilkenny a 5-19 to 3-21 victory.

And here’s Malachy Clerkin’s report on Tipperary’s win over Waterford at Semple Stadium:
A couple of minutes before the end, Liam Cahill threw his hands in the air at the latest mini-injustice visited upon his side by referee Seán Stack. He spun on his heel and turned to the crowd, chuntering away to himself and to nobody, only stopping when his consigliere Mikey Bevans patted him on the belly. The pair of them fell into a smile. A sure sign the job was done.
They were superior to Waterford here, probably even more so than the nine-point margin suggests. Certainly, they felt the pointier end of Stack’s stick on occasion and could have had two penalties. Even Waterford manager Peter Queally more or less conceded as much afterwards. “We rode our luck with black cards and penalties,” he said.
Regardless, Tipperary have achieved escape velocity and are the first team qualified from Munster.

A demolition of sorts, Limerick hardly giving Cork a sniff of it at the Gaelic Grounds. Will they meet again before the summer is out?
Kyle Hayes is named man of the match, Limerick’s 16-point winning margin over Cork the same as the 2021 All-Ireland final.
It also means All-Ireland champions Clare won’t be progressing, no matter what happens in their last game against Limerick next Sunday, also at the Gaelic Grounds.
Cork meanwhile will need to beat Waterford in Pairc Ui Chaoimh next Sunday to be sure they go through.
Full-time: Limerick 3-26 Cork 1-16
Some brief confusion near the end as Limerick appear to have 16 players on the field, before Diarmaid Byrnes leaves the field of play on 69 minutes. Play is called back for a free at the spot Byrnes last touched the ball, but it doesn’t have any impact whatsover on the end result.
Horgan’s late goal chance comes off the crossbar, and Limerick have a made a bold statement of intent, Peter Casey scoring late on to round out a massive victory.
Limerick 3-25 Cork 1-16: It has not been a good afternoon for Cork, who simply failed to get sort of any consistency into their game. Cathal O’Neill adds another point for Limerick on 67 minutes.
PENALTY! Limerick 3-23 Cork 1-16: Gillane appears to be brought down by Eoin Downey close to goal, and Gillane steps up himself to do the honours. After 63 minutes that’s game over.

We’ve seen this before alright. Textbook score by Limerick.
Limerick 2-23 Cork 0-16: Gillane scores again from the placed ball, on 57 minutes, and the lead is back up to 13 points. No way back for Cork now.
42,477 - the official attendance at the Gaelic Grounds, but will all the Cork supporters be staying right up until the very end?
Limerick 2-22 Cork 0-16: Cork are throwing everything at Limerick, but the home team aren’t giving an inch, rallying back themselves through Cathal O’Neill on 54 minutes, his first since coming off the bench. Looks like closing time already for Cork.
Limerick 2-21 Cork 0-16: There’s a bit of fight left in Cork still, Harnedy adding another score from play since his half-time introduction, on 48 minutes, Horgan then converting another free.
Limerick 2-21 Cork 0-13: Gearoid Hegarty and Gillane strike with ease from play, and Limerick bring their tally to 2-21 after 44 minutes. Cork get one back through Seamus Harnedy, but they’re still lacking the fire required to get them back into this game.
Limerick 2-19 Cork 0-11: A rare wide by Tom Morrissey on 40 minutes is followed up by another free by Horgan, but Cork need to find some goals and find them fast.
Limerick 2-18 Cork 0-10: Back underway in the second half at the Gaelic Grounds, and after Cork strike another wide, they do manage to win a free on 37 minutes, Horgan converting this time.
The surprise result of the day? Mayo looked off colour all afternoon, even on their home ground, but a fine win for Cavan nonetheless.

Half-time: Limerick 2-18 Cork 0-9
Will O’Donoghue scores a majestic point just before the break for Limerick, and Cork have been run ragged, not helped by their own inaccuracies in front of goal.

Limerick 1-12 Cork 0-6: It’s proving every bit as phyiscal and intense as expected at the Gaelic Grounds, Cork trying hard to make some inroads on the scoreboard, but are struggling to convert their chances. Gillane converts another free on 26 minutes.
Limerick 1-10 Cork 0-5: A much-needed free by Patrick Horgan after 21 minutes, just when Limerick threatening to completely pull away. Cork won’t panic yet though.

Limerick 1-4 Cork 0-3: After a hectic 10 minutes a free from Gillane puts Limerick four up, still very early days.
A brief on-the-whistle update from Thurles by Malachy Clerkin.
Tipperary qualify from the Munster championship after a 1-30 to 1-21 win over Waterford in Thurles.
It was easier from them than the scoreline suggests, particularly since they seemed to feel the pointier end of referee Seán Stack’s stick throughout.
They could have had two penalties but ultimately didn’t need them against a pretty ordinary Waterford side. Andrew Ormond, Jake Morris and Bryan O’Mara were outstanding for a Tipp outfit than only had two wides in the entire second half.
Limerick 1-2 Cork 0-3: Diarmuid Byrnes gets himself an early booking, and after four minutes Cork have three points of their own, Mark Coleman striking from distance, Robert Downey doing likewise on five minutes.
GOAL! Limerick 1-2 Cork 0-0: Make that a goal and two points, Aaron Gillane addiing a brilliant goal from close range, and Cork are already in a spot of bother.
Limerick 0-2 Cork 0-0: Limerick are up and running at a jam-packed Gaelic Grounds, Tom Morrissey scoring two points inside the first two minutes.
That fourth goal by Kilkenny in Nowlan Park that has left Dublin with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Full-time: Tipperary 1-30 Waterford 1-21
A late charge by Waterford wasn’t enough to salvage anything from this game, their chances of progressing from the Munster hurling championship now effectively done. After a shaky start, Tipp were deserving winners, making a statement too, Joe Caesar among those to add an excellent point in added time, Connolly adding another long-range free too. Waterford face Cork in the last round.

In case you missed it, Dublin got their All-Ireland football challenge back on track with a narrow win over Galway in Salthill yesterday evening, winning their opening round of the All-Ireland series.
Gordon Manning was there, and called it “one of those picture postcard Saturday afternoons in sun-baked Salthill for Dublin”.
He added: “The stamped dispatches mailed back to the capital went something like this – lovely day out west, we had ice cream on the prom and later that evening watched Tom Lahiff put the cherry on top, talk of our demise has been greatly exaggerated. We’ll be home soon, see you at Croke Park.”

Sean Moran’s two hurling previews deftly set the scene for what’s in store in Thurles and Limerick.
Tipperary v Waterford, FBD Semple Stadium Thurles, 2pm – Having done a decent job on refitting Tipperary, Liam Cahill knows the importance of getting out of the province to continue the development work and is at the same time mindful of this fixture’s pitfalls. Even with their blank record in the round-robin, Waterford are unbeaten by Tipp since the format resumed in 2022.
The home side did well, however, to bounce back from the Páirc Uí Chaoimh calamity and beat Clare in Ennis. They are getting good, productive form from the forwards and if the defence can lose focus, it brings high energy and will need to if Waterford get a run on them. On balance, though. Verdict: Tipperary
Limerick v Cork, TUS Gaelic Grounds Limerick, 4pm – This fixture has created plenty of fireworks since the round robin began, most vividly last year in two matches that Cork nicked despite Limerick having every opportunity themselves.
Even in the league, Limerick chose this fixture to put in a performance and led by four going down the stretch but again, Cork caught them for a draw. The home side will hope to bring further incremental improvement to their packed-to-capacity venue and put pressure on the visitors’ fault-lines: a mysterious disinclination to sustain 70-minute displays and a slight recurrence of the disciplinary issues that dogged their early championship last year.
Good afternoon, and welcome to The Irish Times live GAA blog for what is another massive Sunday in the Munster hurling championship, with plenty of football action too.
In the penultimate round of the Munster hurling championship, Tipperary take on Waterford, at FBD Semple Stadium in Thurles at 2pm, followed by the headline clash between Limerick and Cork at TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick at 4pm. Two critical games which could ultimately influence the progression of all four teams.
In Leinster, there is also a fourth round meeting between Kilkenny and Dublin at UPMC Nowlan Park (3pm).
In football, Clare face Down (Cusack Park, 2pm) and Mayo host Cavan (MacHale Park, 2.30pm) in the first round of the All-Ireland series, and there are also four games in the second round of the Tailteann Cup; Leitrim v Sligo, Carrick-on-Shannon, 1.30pm; London v Westmeath, Ruislip, 2pm; Carlow v Wexford, Netwatch Cullen Park, 2.30pm; Longford v Fermanagh, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 3pm
