Cobh Ramblers 0 Derry City 3:DERRY CITY got back to winning ways in the Premier Division at St Colman's Park on Saturday, condemning Cobh Ramblers to their second three-goal defeat on the bounce.

Cork City's defeat to Bohemians the previous evening gave the visitors a good opportunity to close the gap on third spot and they duly accepted it with Niall McGinn, Gareth McGlynn and Sammy Morrow ensuring the win.

Neither goalkeeper was significantly troubled until the 67th minute when McGinn forced Cobh goalkeeper James McCarthy to push the ball out for a corner. The Derry winger then took possession from that set-piece before darting across the box to get away a shot that ricocheted off two of his team-mates and into the net.

"It's a tough place to come," said McGinn afterwards. "We're very happy with the three points. We didn't play great in the first half and had very few chances but we took them in the second half. We have to push on now and close the gap more."

McGlynn then added a second on 82 minutes after McGinn turned provider, his pull back from the left end-line allowing the resurgent Derry player to rifle home from 15 yards.

Morrow's 92nd minute strike put a deserved gloss on it after he was put through cleverly by Kevin McHugh.

"It's either a feast or a famine with us," said Derry manager Stephen Kenny. "We've scored four times in the last two weeks and we've got another three tonight but then we've had weeks where we haven't scored at all."
