Craig Young has been ruled out of Ireland’s T20 World Cup squad and will be replaced by Graham Hume, who will be flown out to Australia as soon as possible.
Young has suffered a recurrence of a chronic hip injury, one which cost him game time already during the summer, and will play no part in the competition.
Mark Rausa, Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services at Cricket Ireland, said:
“Unfortunately, whilst out in Sydney for our T20 World Cup prep camp, Craig experienced a recurrence of a chronic issue which we have been managing for quite some time,” said Mark Rausa, Cricket Ireland’s head of physiotherapy.

To contest or not to contest? That is the question for Ireland’s aerial game
“Whilst we thought we were on top of the issue, it sadly flared up once we arrived in Sydney and began training. Craig will now return home for an assessment with our medical specialists to plan out his rehab.”
South Africa-born Hume, 31, as played one T20I in his career, returning figures of 0-41 off four overs against Afghanistan in August.
He is unlikely to have enough time to travel and feature in Tuesday’s warm-up game against Namibia, leaving a likely battle between Conor Olphert and Fionn Hand for Young’s place in the XI.
David Delany, who played in last month’s inter-squad games, sees his international exile (last capped in 2019) continue despite already playing club cricket in Australia.
