Given its wide range of applications, is it any wonder artificial intelligence (AI) has found its way into the gym? Many gym programmes are “one size fits all”, when the reality is that we are all unique in terms of fitness, ability, body composition, genetics and so on. In contrast, AI promises to deliver truly personalised training programmes and thus potentially better results for all that time spent sweating it out.
Precision training is the tailor-made version of fitness, leveraging big data, real-time biofeedback, and evidence-based algorithms to deliver better outcomes, explains Dr Silvano Zanuso, who is adjunct associate professor at the Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia.
“It moves beyond generic workout programmes, instead building training plans based on real-time data from your own body,” he explains. “Using wearables, sensors, and AI-powered systems, it adapts daily to how you respond – physically and biologically. Think of it as having a personal coach, one that constantly updates your path to better performance, faster recovery and optimised results.”
Zanuso is also scientific research and communication director at Technogym, a life sciences company featuring a unique ecosystem made of connected equipment, training protocols and technology that they say can deliver precision training to as wide an audience as possible. Established in 1983, their programmes are in use in more than 100 countries and more than 70 million people use their products.
Technogym is also the brand of reference to sport champions and celebrities. Recently DJ David Guetta has credited the Technogym Ecosystem with his return to fitness after a serious back injury.
Now Technogym has launched “Healthness”, an enhanced version of its customised programmes, that they say can deliver results that are 30 per cent better in the same period of time as your standard fitness plan. Zanuso stresses that this is not just a gym programme – it is an entire lifestyle strategy that is revolutionary.
“Healthness is the new frontier of wellness – upgraded with tech such as AI and data but underpinned by science,” Zanuso says. “It takes into account real-time biofeedback and big data to fine-tune everything around you. Healthness uses smart algorithms to create a training programme and lifestyle strategy that’s uniquely yours and updates it as your body and environment change.”

Ultimately, Healthness is a high-precision health protocol, using performance and biological biomarkers like weight, body composition, blood pressure, and heart rate variability. In addition to these basic functional data points, the programme also takes into account a person’s maximal aerobic capacity (or VO2 max) and their maximal muscle strength. “Those two key indicators have to be considered as powerful vital signs since they are so strongly correlated with health and life expectancy,” Zanuso says. “Together, these data points fuel a personalised system that adapts to you daily.”
Because Healthness is fully customisable, Zanuso maintains that it can work for people of all ages, backgrounds, and health conditions. “Whether you’re a busy professional or someone managing a chronic condition, Healthness builds a personalised path around your needs.” He also emphasises its role in primary prevention, given that it can provide a realistic fitness plan that is easy to stick to.
“In a world where chronic conditions are rising along with life expectancy and population size, Healthness offers a proactive solution,” Zanuso says. “The goal is for people to live longer but in better health. It can help delay the onset of disease, reduce pressure on healthcare systems and empower individuals to take charge of their wellbeing – not reactively, but predictively.”
Gavin Whelan, managing director of Gym source Ireland, says: “As the proud local representative of Technogym in Ireland, we are honoured to be involved in the upcoming Future Health Summit 2025. This event represents a vital platform for shaping the future of health and wellness, and we look forward to contributing to meaningful conversations, sharing innovative solutions and connecting with leaders who are as passionate about wellbeing as we are. We’re excited to play our part in driving forward a healthier, more active future for all.”
