The mother of Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has died suddenly following an accident while on a holiday.
It is understood the incident occurred while Mary Ryan was on Inisbofin Island, off the coast of Co Galway.
Ms Ryan, from Sandycove, south Dublin, was taken to University Hospital Galway by air ambulance, but died on Wednesday.
A Green Party spokesman said “Mary Ryan, mother of John, Eamon, Robert and Marion died suddenly in the early hours [of Wednesday] at University Hospital Galway.”

“Minister Eamon Ryan wants to thank the Air Ambulance Service as well as staff at University Hospital Galway for their care,” the spokesman said.
A death notice posted by the family said Ms Ryan died unexpectedly but peacefully.
She was described as a loving mother to John, Eamon, Robert and Marion. The notice said she would be sadly missed by her children and their partners, her many grandchildren, extended family, as well as neighbours and friends.
Her funeral Mass is to take place in St Joseph’s Church, Glasthule, south Dublin, on Saturday.
