Sir, – You report on Saturday that, on advice from Nphet, people arriving into the country are set to benefit from an expanded State Covid testing regime (News, February 27th). A clear test would enable them to leave quarantine. This sounds like good news, but deflation followed fast; “the advice is . . . subject to operational capacity and feasibility”.
This should ease the concerns of anyone who might be planning to travel to Ireland.
When the pandemic is in the rear-view mirror, I might have a crack at climbing Mount Everest, beating Magnus Carlsen at chess and running a four-minute mile. It should be understood that all of these aspirations are subject to operational capacity and feasibility. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – A big part of the problem for the Government is that it cannot stretch the timeline for action in tackling Covid. For everything else, from climate action, to a metro for Dublin, to the children’s hospital, it can just kick the can down the road. – Yours, etc,
