Sir, – Chris Jones could well be right when he suggests that "the era of free and easy government borrowing" may soon end ("Era of free money could be coming to an end", Business Opinion, February 28th).
He never, however, raises one of the more obvious ways that governments have to mitigate that – by substantially increasing taxes on all high-end income and introducing a proper wealth tax.
Individuals only have these vast sums to lend because of the continued failure to create any level of distributive justice by curtailing the amount of wealth any one individual can amass. – Yours, etc,
