The price of fame

Sir, – Jennifer O'Connell writes (Opinion & Analysis, May 14th) that the so-called Wagatha trial shows a tabloid culture that despises women. She tells us that Rebekah Vardy is married to a footballer, that Coleen Rooney is the wife of another footballer, and that "for once the identities of the men are not important".

Really? Is Jennifer O’Connell seriously suggesting that this “entitled and lamentably unself-aware pair” would have needed agents, would have been of the slightest interest to the tabloids or would have troubled the London courts of justice had they not been married to two world-famous footballers? – Yours, etc,
