A chara, - When will our Government honour the true spirit of equality legislation and give justice to the small people of our Republic? Indeed, one might ask why the UN Human Rights Agency is not to the forefront on this issue, demanding justice for the vertically challenged?

At the GPO last Sunday I was reminded of the State's neglect of short people, with so many denied a full view of the proceedings. Within earshot several people regretted not having brought along boxes to stand on, while some of the more politically aware declared it to be a duty of Government! "Is it not the policy of this Government," they asked, "to make everyone equal irrespective of gender, race, religion and circumstance? So why stop at size?" At a time when political correctness inspires and shapes so many of this Government's policies, it is difficult to understand why it fails to provide an enhanced standing for children and small adults. As a result, on most weekends law abiding, tax-paying citizens are denied full enjoyment of race meetings, football matches and other events simply because they were discriminated against by a politically incorrect Nature.

Surely this situation constitutes an infringement of fundamental human rights which the Government and UN have a duty to remedy!
