Sir, – The problem with Eamon Ryan and the Green Party pronouncements is that they do make some sense at a micro-level and encourage people to take responsibility for their actions. However, in the greater scale of things it matters little if I drive at 80 kilometres an hour when China is building 60 new coal-powered electricity generation plants each year. What’s Mr Ryan doing about that? And while the world is crying out for the planting of millions of trees, we have the Greens overseeing the collapse of the forestry industry in Ireland. – Yours, etc,

A chara, – Why criticise Eamon Ryan for advising us to do everything we can to save our poor planet? The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has warned that the chance to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis will be lost if global greenhouse gas emissions do not begin to fall in the next three years.
It will require a concerted effort from each of us – individuals as well as businesses – to have any hope. I say well done, Minister. Keep the tips coming. It is your job and your duty to do so. The rest is up to each of us. – Is mise,
