Sir, – There is nothing unusual about coming across road markings that are read from the bottom to the top (Letters, March 15th). It is a common occurrence on highways in the United States, for example.
The “inverse” reading direction forces road users to look up and ahead rather than down and away from oncoming traffic. From a user-experience perspective, such road marking reading direction is a practice that would be well adopted elsewhere, especially in this age of “petextrians”; people who are more concerned with the screens on their phone than any road markings whatsoever. – Yours, etc,
