A chara, – The co-founder of Revolut, Vlad Yatsenko, donated €1.1 million to The Late Late Toy Show Appeal – a fundraiser which raises money for a variety of causes including children’s hospitals in Ireland.
Yatsenko is worth an estimated €1.1 billion; so he donated a mere 0.01% of his wealth. I believe many people will donate a higher percentage of their wealth to charitable causes this festive season without receiving the notoriety he has enjoyed.
Therefore, instead of celebrating the philanthropic gesture of a billionaire, we should instead begin to question the economic conditions which allow one man to hoard such substantive wealth while our national children’s hospitals rely on charity to run their services.
