Reporting and commenting on Covid

Sir, – Tim Fogarty (Letters, December 17th) acknowledges civil liberties and the right to choose vaccination and mask wearing, but contends that those who choose to exercise these rights must take the consequences, ie have their lives curtailed. Those who take the vaccine and wear masks are having their lives equally curtailed! It is time that this Covid chaos is stopped and there is some serious examination of the measures being taken, which are clearly not working. Also balanced, objective reporting has disappeared from all mainstream media, including The Irish Times. I am waiting for an analysis of statistics on Covid deaths and recovery rates, by age, underlying conditions and to distinguish between those who died of Covid and those who died with Covid. There is very little mention of vaccine side-effects or the unintended consequences of the restrictions both psychologically and economically.

"Covid anti-vaxxers'" are lumped in with Covid deniers, conspiracy theorists and the "loony left", and according to Fintan O'Toole (Opinion, December 11th) are either paranoid, fascists or egoists. What dangerous nonsense! – Yours, etc,

MARGARET GOODE,
