Private schools and State support

Sir, – Ian d'Alton misses the point (Letters, February 22nd). He states that those using private schools "should pay for it, in full, and not soak the taxpayer". An extraordinary suggestion. The people he refers to are taxpayers and likely paying a whopping "progressive" share of the national personal income tax take. They just ask that this quantum of lifelong contribution is recognised by way of equitable State contribution to these schools. They are, it seems, quite prepared to pay for additional services out of further, taxed, personal income. – Yours, etc,

JOHN GRIFFIN,

Kells,

Co Meath.
