Madam, - Fiachra Etchingham is incorrect in stating (September 11th) that the plan for Greystones Harbour is "almost identical" to a plan rejected in 1997. The current plan contains half the number of homes and the height has been reduced from six to four storeys. Community organisations (Sea Scouts, sailors, anglers, rowers, Coast Guard, etc.) will also get new or improved facilities as well as a new beach and a large public park.
Lobbying and discussion on how to rebuild the harbour has been going on since it started to collapse in 1888! There has been extensive public consultation and seven different options have been reviewed since 1997.
For decades there has been a surplus of talk and no action. The plan should be adopted now and implemented as soon as possible. - Yours, etc.,
Cllr DEREK MITCHELL (FG), Manor Avenue, Greystones, Co Wicklow.
