Sir, - I am surprised that Michael Dwyer finds the story of the unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and John Brown, featured in Mrs Brown, unfamiliar. The friendship was earlier featured in an Anglo American big budget film called The Mu&ark, which cast Irene Dunne as Victoria, Finlay Currie as Brown and Alec Guinness as Disraeli.
It was the Royal Film Performance in 1950, directed by Jean Negulesco, and did a lot to further the early career of Alec Guinness. - Yours, etc.,
