Madam, - Last September the deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr John Gallagher, launched our newest project at St Andrew's Resource Centre, "Capturing Memories".

This is the development of a social history archive for the Westland Row-City Quay parishes and surrounding areas.

Like many other parts of inner-city Dublin, the area has undergone many changes. The population of the area was estimated at about 30,000 in 1940. This then dropped to as low as 7,000 at one time, owing to rehousing programmes and emigration.

Now, when the population is set to rise again as new housing developments are occupied, it is hoped this project in St Andrew's will act as a repository for memories, memorabilia, photographs, etc, and these in turn can be made available for future examination. This will also allow new arrivals to understand some of the history of the area.
