Sir, – I support the History Teachers' Association of Ireland regarding retaining history at junior cycle (Letters, April 2nd).
I recently had a question from a very young secondary school student asking if the Good Friday Agreement was connected to the opening of pubs on Good Friday. It was not April 1st.
The lack of appreciation of our immediate history regarding the Troubles, in particular, is handing our republican diehard friends a gift of fake history and mythmaking. – Yours, etc,
