Sir, – Leo Varadkar has told the Dáil that he's not sure if Jeremy Corbyn "will rise to the occasion and show leadership" in talks with Theresa May ( "Taoiseach doubts Corbyn can 'rise to the occasion' in Brexit talks", News, April 3rd).
Am I alone in believing that Mr Corbyn has demonstrated immense skill in his disciplined approach to the endless Brexit process?
As it stands, Mrs May has now turned to Labour in a desperate attempt to save her withdrawal deal; Tory Brexiteers are rounding on the British prime minister with ever increasing bitterness; a soft Brexit or people’s vote seem almost certain.
In short, the Labour leader’s discreet long-term Brexit strategy appears to be coming nicely to fruition.

Maybe Mr Varadkar’s unguarded, unhelpful comments were simply another example of what Richard Boyd Barrett calls “the Taoiseach’s obsession with having pot-shots at socialists and the left”?
However, they were clearly unnecessary in the context of today’s febrile and unstable UK politics. – Yours, etc,
