Sir, – Margaret McCarroll (October 15th) makes the astonishing claim that the €7.50 increase in the annual dog licence fee will cause severe hardship to those that are lonely and near the poverty line.
Ms McCaroll must have been at sea for the past five years. Severe hardship has been afflicted on the 15 per cent of our population who are out of work, the droves who are leaving each day and those who have had medical and social services cut.
Our esteemed politicians keep telling us that the burden must be spread among all. I, for one, am heartened to see that they have included our pooch population. – Yours, etc,
