Sir, – My mother used to caution that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you oughta. The “unofficial” lockdown of Dublin by protesting truck drivers was simply a case of mocking the meek and the weak on their way to work, to hospitals, to schools, to shops. What did they get from it, bar knowing they can do it?

Sir, – In the UK, demonstrators blocked the roads to demand the UK government meet targets on reducing carbon emissions from fossil fuel.
In Ireland, demonstrators blocked the roads to demand the Irish Government decrease the cost of carbon emitting fossil fuels.
Some of us are on a different road looking through the windscreen while others are looking though the rear-view mirror.

Sir, – It’s interesting to see Irish hauliers recognise street blockages as a legitimate form of protest considering they are usually the first group on the line to talk radio to complain of the effects of such protests on working people, decrying protesters as jobless layabouts or attention seekers.
