Sir, – Peter Pallas (August 20th) seems to be claiming support for his “anti-quota” views from the ancient Greeks. I am not a Greek scholar, and it is a long time since I was at school, but I clearly remember learning that the “people” who could take part in the Greek democracy included neither women nor slaves.
I look forward to the time when a fairer representation of women makes quotas unnecessary. – Yours, etc,
