‘Criticising Israeli policy is not anti-Semitic’

Sir, – Sue Pentel's assertion that "The IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) definition conflates anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism" misrepresents not only the wording but also the need for such a definition ("Criticising Israeli policy is not anti-Semitic", Letters, December 30th) .

Under the definition, whereas anti-Zionism – denying the Jewish people the right to their historic homeland and self-determination in the State of Israel – is seen as leading to a worrying and rising form of anti-Semitism, legitimate criticism of the actions of its government is described as fair game. – Yours, etc,
